Coffered Ceilings

The coffered ceiling is enjoying a renaissance as the new ‘it’ architectural feature of the modern home.  Here we show you how Woodridge carpenters build a coffered ceiling in the Den of a North American inspired home designed by Architect Christopher Doyle.

Coffered ceilings consist of beams or moulding arranged in a grid. Because the grid hangs lower than the flat portion of the ceiling, it creates boxlike ceiling sections. The recessed ceiling areas typically have a rectangular or square shape, depending on the shape of the room.

Coffered ceilings create a sense of elevation, adding drama, light and luxury to a space. With the ability to demarcate zones within a larger space – such as over a dining area in an open plan living space – a coffered ceiling can divide a space visually and add a point of difference to your home.
